People are really interested in the latest robots. That’s the best explanation of the strong attendance at my Home Robot Invasion presentations during the Pittsburgh Home and Garden Show. But it also may have had something to do with strong media coverage leading up to the show. Reporters are likewise interested in robots.
The weekend before the 10-day show opened, the exhibit was featured on the cover of the Home and Garden section of the Post-Gazette. Then the local CBS affiliate creatively reported on both the robot presentation and the Life-Changing Products Exhibit on the evening news before the show opened. Talk about priming the pump.
During the show, Pittsburg Today Live, a morning news show, also did two in-depth pieces on the exhibit — one on the products, the other focusing on robots. Here’s the first, and here’s the second. The videos were distributed nationally via YouTube and MSN, which apparently also like robot content.
This was my fourth consecutive appearance at the Pittsburgh show, easily the biggest show that I do all year. It’s a six-mile walk to cover the entire exhibit floor. More than 200,000 people attend the show every year. This year, many people returned for a second visit.
